If you are considering buying an RV but wonder if it is possible to enjoy good cooking in one, the answer is yes. Or maybe you have only been doing the basics in your motorhome kitchen and want to broaden the scope of your meals. Cooking in an RV can be challenging. You are limited to the supplies and utensils you can carry, but that doesn’t mean your meals have to be mundane. Ryan’s RV Town has Wildwood motorhome – RV – travel trailers for sale in Maple Valley, and we are here to share some fantastic cooking tips.
Plan in Advance
When you know you are going to travel, do your meal planning. Don’t wait until you get where you are going to decide what’s for dinner. Stock up on needed supplies ahead of time. You may be limited in space, but if you have your shopping lists and recipes prepared, you will be ahead of the game.
Simplicity is the Key
Delicious meals don’t have to be fancy. While a gourmet meal is a treat, think of dishes that can be prepared simply when traveling. Soups and casseroles require only one pot or pan. Stir fry meals are another one-pot idea.
Choose Your Cookware Wisely
Since you have limited space, purchase a few well-thought-out pieces of cookware. A nice 8-quart pan is nice and multipurpose. If you have a cast iron dutch oven, you can cook and fry in it. A crockpot is another excellent option, but you do need electricity to use it.
Prep Your Food
Prepping your food ahead of time can save space too. A Ziploc bag of chopped carrots, onions, or celery takes up less space than a bag of produce. Or you could make it easy and purchase already prepped items. Most grocery stores carry precut veggies.
Double Duty Meals
Another great way to save is to prepare a meal that will get you leftovers or another meal. For example, a roast chicken provides supper one night but can then be turned into chicken salad and the carcass cooked for chicken soup. Store-bought rotisserie chickens can be the basis for many great meals, and no cooking required on your part.
