Stay Safe with These Winter Travel Tips in Stanwood

Stay Safe with These Winter Travel Tips in Stanwood

At Ryan’s RV Town we love traveling year-round. Cold weather doesn’t stop RVers from hitting the road, but there are dangers to frigid weather if you are not prepared. We offer our customers new and used travel trailers for sale in Stanwood, and we would also like to offer these winter safety tips:

Avoiding Frostbite and Hypothermia

One of the dangers of extreme temperatures is frostbite. If areas of your body such as your ears, cheeks, nose, hands, and feet are not adequately protected, they can develop frostbite. If not caught early enough the damage can be permanent. Hypothermia is a result of exposure to cold weather that causes your body temperature to drop below 95 degrees. Severe shivering is followed by fatigue, drowsiness, and confusion. Death will follow if exposure continues. Things you can do to avoid these problems:

  • Wear loose, layered clothing
  • Use mittens instead of gloves
  • Be prepared by carrying extra blankets
  • Know the weather before you leave

Avoiding Injuries from Slips & Falls

ERs see more injuries from slipping and falling during the cold weather. Ice can be treacherous and often unseen. To avoid falling and slipping on the ice, there are some things you can do;

  • Have ice on hand to salt ice areas
  • Kitty litter will work for traction if you don’t have salt
  • Don’t walk with your hands in your pocket
  • Take fashionable shoes with you and change when you get there
  • Make sure you have shoes with good traction
